ME223: Applied Robot Design

Pick and Place Robot
stanford.webp

This project involved the design and fabrication of a versatile pick-and-place robotic system, constructed using a robust 80/20 aluminum extrusion frame for modularity and structural integrity. The system utilized a combination of DC motors, stepper motors, servos, pulley-driven mechanism and a cable capstan system to achieve multi-axis movement.

Design Prompt: Create final project of the class adhering to budget and machining time constraints while emphasizing refined machining finish

Named after grace and elegance, Mihrimah is an iris mechanism jewelry box. It encapsulates an intimate legacy – a testament to the enduring moments and precious jewelry passed down through generations. Inspired by the heritage of gold jewelry bestowed by mothers onto daughters during wedding symbolizing timeless beauty and familial bonds. Mihrimah represents my heritage and affection, carrying forward a legacy that goes beyond its beautiful appearance.

Crafted using a combination of CNC machining, water jetting, and woodworking techniques. It comprises a walnut base supporting a brass water jet piece, functioning as a crank to gracefully open its five brass petals. These petals are CNC machined with fusion of 2D and 3D elements, which unfold to form a jasmine flower, with each petal adorned by three pearls.

Materials: Brass, Walnut

Manufacturing processes: CNC machining, Finishing, Waterjet cutting, Wood working

Unveiling
stanford.webp

Design Prompt: Create a miniature maze inspired by a poem with name and date engraved on the back.

Unveiling is a maze inspired by Farid ud-din Attar's poem 'The Conference of the Birds', symbolizing personal transformation and the journey of self discovery. The design captures the essence of the poem through an abstraction representation of a bird, a human face, and a mirror in between them.

Materials: Aluminum 6061, Acrylic, Stainless Steel bearings 0.0625"dia

Manufacturing processes: CNC machining, Finishing, Laser cutting
